I had the absolute pleasure of creating 3 large golf-themed paintings for the Niakwa Country Club’s renovation project recently, and I’m super stoked about them all!

I called upon my studio homie Paolo to custom build me canvases to fit the space perfectly. He assembled the stretchers, primed the canvases and additionally I had asked him if he could paint them red for me as I wanted to cut down on the off-gassing of paint I was breathing in due to pregnancy. He did a fantastic job and I had the most beautiful canvases to work on.

I created each of the three pieces with the red ground technique. In this technique, you use red as your background and it peeks through in the most unexpected and magical ways. Little bits of red here and there create magic with the colours on the canvas ✨❤️.

This piece was based on a black and white photograph of Ben Hogan playing golf at the club in the 1940’s. I kept some elements of the original photo and updated others to give a more modern feel - with lots of colour!

This project had a very tight deadline and I’m very proud to have risen to the occasion being in my second trimester and raising a toddler at the same time!

We Love You Here represents the creation of a loving home. The title is drawn from the phrase "we love you here" that my husband and I shared in our relationship prior to our daughter being born. Before becoming parents, our "we" included one another and our house plants, and expressed our love for the home we built together. My experience of growing up without a positive relationship example inspired me to break that cycle for my children. I used many layers of acrylic paint to express depth in this work, paralleling my layered path to true love.

This concept was for a sweatshirt design. It started as a vision I had in the shower. I was trying to think about how I could share a meaningful message that would resonate with people. I decided that Love is the Future is what I wanted to share. I then spent time coming up with concept drawings that I eventually translated into a finished work of art. I wanted to include symbolism for love, floral aspects, and imagery that spoke of telling the future. In addition, I wanted the piece to have a unique organic border so that eventually it would integrate beautifully onto a sweatshirt. I made sure all the details were exactly how I had imagined, laying down each stroke of paint until I was satisfied. Once my painting was complete, I scanned it into the computer, stitched it together in Photoshop, and began translating it onto the sweatshirts.

This piece is a true labor of love. I hope wearing it can remind us to lead with love in our everyday lives.

The Witcher hunting a little monster on vacation 🏹😄.

This was a commissioned piece to paint the witcher hunting a monster as an over-paint of an old-school painting that was found at the thrift store.

I am living for these oranges and yellows in the background, a perfect setting. I came up with the concept that the Witcher would have a pool cleaning device and the little monster would be floating leisurely on a llama🦙 pool floatie until he spots the witcher yonder on the other side of the lake 🤣🏹😬. My client requested a scene with a comical commentary and I really like how it turned out.

Toss a coin to your Witcher. 😉

This piece is about healing inner wounds and learning from life experiences. I wanted to make the dagger relatively small in proportion to the rest of the piece, as I wanted the focus to be more on the healing process and less on the pain itself. The doves and the butterflies represent the healing spirits, coming to repair the wound and uplift. I chose my colour palette to reflect a prism or rainbow to share the message of better times ahead.

The honorific "Mahatma" was first given to Gandhi in 1914. Mahatma meaning: (in South Asia) a person regarded with reverence or loving respect; a holy person or sage.

I am creating a series of portraits portraying heroes from the past who we can learn from. People who fought against segregation and fought for freedom.

Butterflies to me are always a positive sign, and whenever my husband and I see them on our walks we get all excited, as if they are bringing a special surprise message with them!

For this piece, I used different background colours to make certain areas of the painting pop, and allow other areas to draw back into the background. Then I used the paint colour opacities to further the illusion.

The flowers in this piece are from my wedding bouquet 💐. I wanted the expression to be stressed or pained, contrasting with the beauty of the flowers and the floating orbs showing that you can always find a positive in a difficult situation, even if you can't see it right away.⁣

"If Zeus Was Tender" depicts a surrealist portrait of Zeus, the God of Thunder, re-imagined as a tender, loving, modern-day hipster (who is most likely vegan). The piece features many references to the Classical Greek Mythological figure, from the olive branch in his man bun, to his delightful animal friends. Instead of the famous olive wreath crown from his past life, modern Zeus ties up his locks with a single olive branch, paying homage to his past all-mighty self, while honouring his current climate-changing environment. His beautiful eagle friend, traditionally an emblem of victory, sits on his shoulder reminding us that coming together as a community, together we win. In the classical story of Zeus, he transforms into a white bull to deceive others and satisfy his own desires. Tender Zeus is not interested in harming others or bad karmic practices. Instead, he kisses and cradles the bull for the magnificent creature that it is, spreading love and joy wherever he goes. His tattooed thunderbolt pays tribute to his dark beginnings, while the "like" of the eagle expresses the new digital age in which he thrives, tweeting and sharing his stories about love, empowerment, and respecting all living beings.

The piece expresses loss and sadness. I was feeling quite emotional while I painted it in quarantine. I wanted it to be an expression of melancholy, but still hold an underlying positive essence about feeling raw and vulnerable, and the beauty that lies within that state of being.

Art is an expression. I wanted this self portrait to express a feeling from inside about working from the heart. Hummingbirds have a history of bringing love and joy into life, and as this portrait is a snapshot of where I am today, I wanted the focus to be on exactly that (as opposed to fear and sadness). I am super thankful for all this time with my fiance Tonio, and the opportunity to wake up each day and decide where I want to put my energy.⁣

⁣These lupine flowers that surround me are one of the most attractive to hummingbirds 🌿❤. You will also notice a single ladybug hanging out on my glasses. For those of you who don't know, ladybugs (for me) are always a strong sign of good luck and good things to come.⁣

⁣I wanted to add a special element to this work, so I used this beautiful gold leaf. It was my first time working with gold leaf and it did NOT disappoint! I will be adding these beautiful shimmery touches to many paintings to come.⁣

This piece is about trusting your inner being. The above quote was taken from spirit-animals.com. This is my favourite source for interpreting animals that come to me in dreams or animals that keep coming up in my life. I always find that the messages relate to my life in one way or another. For this piece I kept seeing a Tarantula come to mind. And when I kept searching, I kept coming back to the tarantula. I love that it is about trust, which is currently something we all have to hold on to on our various paths as we get caught up in thoughts during our isolation.

Tarantulas actually do not spin webs like other spiders. They actually spin silk. That is why the web is not in sync like most spider webs you see, it is more disjointed, representing layers of silk strings. This can be related to the thoughts in my mind, currently all over the place, with the message of trust bringing me back to peace.

The piece is about all the strange dreams I have. I often have what I refer to as "spiritual dreams", which feel completely different than your typical dream. In these spiritual dreams I am always in a world that is not this earth, it all feels very different, and usually I have a powerful animal come to me trying to convey some sort of message. Last time it was an eagle, a lot of times it's lions, once in a while it will be a specific dog breed. And every time I awaken, I always know I was somewhere else, and that dream holds meaning. Usually, I look it up 😏.

To my surprise, this piece turned out exactly how I had imagined it in my head, which quite literally NEVER happens.

The majestic koi fish arrives floating overhead to save the mysterious pirate sailing ship that has become stuck between two mountains. I really love the colour palette as it is new to me. I signed up for a MAWA drawing class at the U of M in their ornithology lab. When I read the description of the class, I honestly thought I would be drawing all these exotic and beautiful birds and in my head, they were flying around and chirping and it was somewhat magical. When I attended the class, I soon realized that the birds were not alive and we would be drawing "specimens", which you can imagine to me what a bit of a shock. Shortly after I arrived I texted my partner and he thought this mix up was QUITE hilarious. ⁣

⁣I felt a little sheepish, but I went on to select a little duck cadaver friend and bring him to life with colour. At the end of the class, I noticed these little owls with the CUTEST little intense faces so I snapped a bunch of pics of them before leaving, and now they have gained a rebirth into this piece, "Forbidden Fruit".

In this work, I love how their little judgey owl faces are intensely starring at you, creating some interest about the crystal ball that is being offered.

Kismet Creek Farm is a family-run farm sanctuary near Steinbach, Manitoba. They offer visits with their residents to raise funds to further their rescue efforts and pride themselves on putting their animals’ physical, emotional and mental well-being first. Kismet’s goal is to promote compassion and respect for all species, and remove animals from the food system.

This piece has some of their past and present residents :). I had the pleasure of visiting the farm on Canada Day and it was the most magical experience being able to interact with all the animals. This artwork will help raise money for their heartfelt efforts.

Presenting little Berri. This was a commemorative piece created as a prezzie for Berri's owner Katie. Here is a little about this miniature schnauzer:

"I would describe Berri as the silliest dog I have ever met. There's this thing he likes to do where he rubs himself along the side of the bed. Like he'd go from one end of the bed to the other and back and forth, makes me giggle thinking about it. He'd let Katie make him dance and wear hats and outfits, he wouldn't particularly enjoy it but he'd let you do that to him. He'd growl but never bite. He's the type of small dog that barks at everything but is just completely harmless. Katie called him Mr. Floofybeard or Berri-Bajinkers." - B.B.

This piece was commissioned by the Winnipeg Humane Society to help raise money at their annual Bow Wow Ball. The theme of the ball was “Diamonds are Furrrever”, and this is also the theme of my painting.

I wanted this piece to be joyful, and a piece that commemorates our loved furry friends who are both alive and who have passed on. The love these animals brings us is forever in our hearts. I kept the expressions of the animals happy and full of energy. Instead of a moon I have a placed a large diamond in the sky, as Diamonds are Furrrever :). I feel the stars in the sky add some sparkle to the piece. Shine on my little furry friends, shine on!

A good friend of mine got married recently, and I was able to travel to Calgary to present her and her fiance their gift. I had secretly emailed her sister for some couple photos a while back, as I knew I had wanted to make her a special painting. The photo I based this painting on was black and white. I really loved creating the colours from my mind and bringing a warm loving portrait to life for these two. It came from love and the contrast and colour combos made me feel like dancing as they flowed through me onto the canvas. Congrats to the beautiful couple, they deserve all the happiness in the world :).

I thought it would be cute to catch some deer playing and frolicking in the fountain. The Leo Mol Sculpture Garden has always been a favourite place of mine to walk and wander. :) This was the largest piece in the show.

Mystical Furry Friends was created for my gallery showing at the Assiniboine Park Pavilion Gallery, here in Winnipeg. The painting includes animals that live in the Assiniboine Park and Zoo. Using a specific colour palette, I tried to capture the spiritual essence of each furry friend. My background painting was my first guide, and then I used each animal’s colour, pose and characteristics to place them in the composition.

I felt the tiger and butterflies belonged together, as opposites attract. The tiger is known to be grand, fierce and ferocious, contrasting with the delicate flutter of the tiny butterfly. However, in some ways they are actually quite similar. In certain areas of the world the monarch butterfly is referred to as the “common tiger” due to the colour resemblance. In addition, both tigers and butterflies bring spiritual messages of endurance and vitality.

The male peacock flexes his handsome feathers in order to catch the attention of the beautiful female. This scene is set on one of the paths at Assiniboine Park, but also depicts the gorgeous Elm trees that are iconic for Winnipeg streets. These trees remind me of my childhood as they also adorn the street I grew up on in the River Heights neighbourhood.

In this piece, the ram and seal team up and hijack the polar bear’s feeding bucket. They want to ensure first hand that the polar bear is fed just to be sure they won’t be dinner.

Every Sunday at the park, the bison, the monkey, and the bunny come together for a good ol’ game of “beach ball keep up”. The monkey normally rides the bison because he is so little, and the bunny typically is the MVP. Due to his hopping skills, he is almost always able to keep the ball up in the air the longest.

My ideal man is strong on the outside and tender on the inside - just like an elephant. I feel elephants are gentle giants. Large, but also soft and beautiful in a way. In this piece I play with geometric shapes and light to push certain sections forward and draw others back.
