About this piece:
I signed up for a MAWA drawing class at the U of M in their ornithology lab. When I read the description of the class, I honestly thought I would be drawing all these exotic and beautiful birds and in my head, they were flying around and chirping and it was somewhat magical. When I attended the class, I soon realized that the birds were not alive and we would be drawing "specimens", which you can imagine to me what a bit of a shock. Shortly after I arrived I texted my partner and he thought this mix up was QUITE hilarious.
I felt a little sheepish, but I went on to select a little duck cadaver friend and bring him to life with colour. At the end of the class, I noticed these little owls with the CUTEST little intense faces so I snapped a bunch of pics of them before leaving, and now they have gained a rebirth into this piece, "Forbidden Fruit".
In this work, I love how their little judgey owl faces are intensely starring at you, creating some interest about the crystal ball that is being offered.
How it was made:
My original paintings are created with quality acrylic paint on either gallery wrapped or traditional canvas. Each piece holds a special vibration and energy as I only paint when I'm feeling inspired. In addition, I varnish each of my creations with a UV topcoat, to preserve the colours from the harsh rays of the sun. I build custom boxes to ship each handmade painting in, and when assembling, I use as many recycled materials as possible, being mindful of our environment. I hope this special painting can bring you the love and joy it brought me while painting it. :)
